Medicare in Yavapai County (CMS data)
CMS counts 96,964 people in Yavapai County as eligible for Medicare, and about 42% of them (40,475) are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan (CMS, September 2026).
Yavapai County's Medicare population
In CMS's September 2026 county file, Yavapai County had the fourth-largest Medicare-eligible population of Arizona's 15 counties, and fewer than half of those residents were in Medicare Advantage.
About 42% were enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan. The majority get their Medicare in other ways, most often through Original Medicare, sometimes with a supplement or other coverage alongside it. Those proportions describe the county; they do not say which path is right for you.
To understand how the two main paths differ before you compare anything, start with what Medicare is and how it works.
The regional SHIP office for Yavapai County
Arizona SHIP, the state's State Health Insurance Assistance Program, works through regional offices. The Arizona Department of Economic Security asks people with plan-selection questions to contact the SHIP and SMP office for the county where they live. For Yavapai County, that is Area Agency on Aging, Region Three, at the Northern Arizona Council of Governments, which also serves Coconino, Navajo and Apache counties.
SMP is the Senior Medicare Patrol, which helps people with Medicare catch and report billing errors and possible fraud. The statewide Arizona SHIP line is on the Medicare in Arizona guide.

How a licensed independent agent helps in Yavapai County
A licensed independent insurance agent can explain how the parts of Medicare fit together, walk through the enrollment windows that apply to you, and review the plans the agent offers in Yavapai County. The review is educational, and there is no obligation to enroll.
Counselors at a State Health Insurance Assistance Program do not sell insurance. An agent can help with an application, but can only discuss the plans that agent offers, which is why the plan-availability disclosure appears next to the request button on this page.
Before a review, it can help to read about the Annual Enrollment Period and the Special Enrollment Periods that open after certain life events. The Medicare in Arizona guide covers the statewide counseling program and consumer contacts.
